Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) was established in the year 2008 vide ACT NO. 30 OF 2008 by the State of Andhra Pradesh. The university traces its roots to the College of Engineering, Vizagapatnam, which was founded by the Government of the composite Madras State in the year 1946.
Spread over a sprawling campus of 100 acres in the port city of Kakinada, the college became a constituent of JNTU Hyderabad in 1972. Following the trifurcation of JNTU Hyderabad, it was notified as JNTUK Kakinada by the act of legislature in 2008.
Courses offered include Engineering, Pharmacy, and Management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university and its affiliated institutions operate under the guidelines issued by the Higher Education Department of Andhra Pradesh and the AP State Council for Higher Education.
JNTUK is known for producing highly professional and competitive engineers by integrating quality education and skill-oriented curriculum. To further enhance the quality of technical education, faculty are actively encouraged to participate in national programs such as the Teacher Quality Improvement Programme, University-Industry Interaction through Consultancy, and Continuing Education Programs.
In pursuit of academic excellence, the university has established prestigious institutions such as the Institute of Science and Technology (IST), School of Food Technology (SFT), and School of Management Studies (SMS). Additionally, JNTUK offers Research Programs in all disciplines of engineering and sciences through both full-time and external registration modes.
The Board of Studies at JNTUK, comprising reputed experts from academia and industry, ensures that the curriculum is revised every three years to keep pace with technological advancements and industry demands. In 2015, JNTUK took a significant step toward digital education by offering customized Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) with the support of senior faculty from IITs, NITs, and leading industry professionals.
